In 2002, Dr. Doug Ruth, Dean of Engineering, and Les Wardrop approached the Council of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (now known as Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba), seeking financial and moral support for the University of Manitoba’s fundraising campaign to replace the aging infrastructure that housed the Price Faculty of Engineering.
In December 2003, the Association pledged $350,000 to support the Engineering and Information Technology Complex (EITC) building fund and established the APEGM Foundation Inc. (renamed Engineering and Geoscience Education Foundation Inc. in 2022) to channel the funds.
In consideration for this pledge, the Association’s name is etched within an image of the Association’s professional seal on the glass windows of the two entrances to the Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba Engineering Design Studio, Rm. E2-229 of the EITC building. The intention is that all students will be reminded of the importance of registering with the Association upon graduation.
The old Engineering Graphics Design Lab, memorable for its size, was the one room through which all engineering students passed. Dr. Doug Ruth went to extraordinary lengths working out the numbering of the rooms so the Design Studio would continue to be 229.
In recognition of the support for the EITC building, the Association was listed on the Donor Wall unveiled at the 100th anniversary of the engineering Faculty (September 14, 2007).
